Environmental Education :: What is it
What is it
The concept of Environmental Education is complex, abstract and hardly shared, as it has not been broadly explained yet. It can be seen as a form of intervention in the environmental problematic mediated by defining projects in educational programs. Environmental Education involves the formation of people in search of a utopia that signifies an opportunity of reinventing their compromise with emancipation. The environmental educator must be impregnated with an emancipatory intent, and maintain himself/herself faithful to a philosophical commitment with a transforming focus in reference to human beings and their relations to nature. Environmental Education is a continued permanent process, with specific strategies developed by its participants, including that of economic survival by a communitarian articulation. This way, the neighborhood, the microbasin and the urban environment articulate the citizenship network, the foundation of sustainable development. Environmental Education must be practiced with a conscious intention of promoting it, and by the incentive of the development of knowledge, values, attitudes and abilities that contribute to survival Ð ours and that of all species in the EarthÕs natural systems Ð participation and human emancipation. To think about Environmental Education brings to mind three concepts: passion, resistance and a firm attitude. |
