What Is It

To us, Active Citizenship means the full exercise of a participation in all entreaties where decisions are taken, that influence our lives and the environment in which we are inserted. The survival of the Planet is associated with a pact, not only between humans, but between humans and their environment - the spaces in which they inhabit.

If there is no involvement or participation from each one of us inhabiting this planet, survival is not viable. To be understood as citizens of this planet, presupposes an involvement, knowledge, understanding, and a sense of belonging.

Participatory and decision-making mechanisms that respect our individual and collective rights on local and planetary urgings are necessary.
At the same time we search for a construction of collective decision-making spaces Ð participation is tightly linked to this Ð and we need a certain autonomy to decide the course of the paths taken.
Only an ethic that poses autonomy as a horizon - constantly searching for pertinent dialogue with interdependence and thus, also with the possible limitations of that autonomy - will we be able to maintain ourselves on the road to emancipation.

To encourage Active Citizenship is part of the mission of ECOAR, which aims to create channels of expression that involve a new citizen/ecological consciousness, giving support to environmental militancy and the strengthening of a collective initiative in relation to socio-environmental issues.
