Who we are

Instituto Ecoar para a Cidadania (Ecoar Institute for Citizenship) was founded in 1992 in São Paulo, Brazil, after the United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development, by professionals, academics, and environmentalists. Its mission is to contribute to the construction of a sustainable society in balance with nature.

Ecoar’s projects and actions take place in several of the Brazilian states, mainly in the southern and southeastern regions. It maintains international partnerships with York University in Canada, the Center for Ecoliteracy in the United States and a range of organizations in South America that together with Ecoar comprise the Social-environmental Information and Protection Center of the Prata Basin (Centro de Saberes y Cuidados Socioambientales de la Cuenca del Prata).

To reach it's goals Ecoar develops and implements projects, provides courses and workshops, develops methodologies and publications and provides consultancy. Its main expertise is focused on participatory processes for local sustainable development, socio-environmental diagnostics using Ecomaps, education on climate change and sustainability, and consultancy on corporate social responsibility, climate change and sustainability.

Among Ecoar's latest projects are: the creation of the first MBA on Climate Change in Brazil; the development of the first sustainability road map for Carbon Capture and Geological Storage technologies with Petrobras and, within the same company, the strengthening of the sustainability culture and the structuring of the CSR actions of it's research center.
